Extra-curricular music

The extra-curricular Music program is designed to encourage music education through participation in instrumental ensembles, rehearsals and performances.

Instrumental

Students can play in a range of ensembles and bands, depending on their musical ability.  Students attend one 35 minute lesson a week during school time and are required to attend one hour of before or afterschool rehearsals each week.

Vocal Group

Vocally gifted or for students with a passion for singing, this ensemble is available to students in years 7-12.  Students will be required to audition for the vocal group at the beginning of each year and rehearse once a week after school for one hour. 

Concert Band

Caloundra’s concert band caters for students of all levels from year 7-12.  The band rehearses once a week for 1 hour outside of school time and perform at various school and community events throughout the year time.

String Ensemble– The String ensemble involves students from year 7-12 of all ability levels.  The ensemble rehearses once a week for one hour outside of school time and perform at various school events throughout the year. 

Rock Band - Students in year 7-12 may audition to be part of the school rock band and rehearse in school lunch breaks, before and/or after school.

Music Extension Program

Year 7 and 8 students can enrol in a Music Extension subject as part of the school timetable.  This is a unique subject that is designed to deepen students' knowledge and understanding of music. The course will provide talented music students with an opportunity to extend their music ability in the areas of performance, composition and analysis of music. The course is designed to promote excellence in music, provide extension and enrichment opportunities, encourage leadership, and develop creativity and critical thinking skills. Students will work with other likeminded and talented music students.

Students must complete an Extension application form and be successful at an audition session to be eligible for this program.  Visit the Scholarships page or Excellence Program page for application closing dates and audition dates.
