International Homestay Program: Information for Homestay Families

Becoming an International Homestay Family is an incredibly rewarding experience, one that will create life-long connections across the globe and open your eyes and heart to the many and varied cultures that this world has to offer.

As a homestay provider, your job is to provide a secure home environment with a bedroom, study area, 3 meals a day and contribute to the brilliant reputation Queensland has of providing the perfect Aussie cultural experience.

You will receive a fortnightly payment of $656.00 to cover your student’s meal and other homestay expenses. That’s a terrific outcome for the cultural opportunities and feel-good factor on offer.

You will have access to support services and resources to help you plan for your student’s visit, and throughout their stay.

International students choose to pay a fee to live and study in Australia for their time here. They wish to become a part of an Australian family.

Caloundra State High School is now recruiting new Homestay Families for our International Students. If you would like to learn more about this program, please contact our International Homestay Coordinator at international@caloundrashs.eq.edu.au

Homestay Program for International Students

Our host families are welcoming, active and keen to support our International students to experience the Australian lifestyle and culture.

Our International Homestay Coordinator will place you in one of our host families, who will offer you a caring and supportive family, that is located close to the school or the beach.

Living in an Australian family will help you to improve your English and make long-lasting connections.

The safety and Wellbeing of our students is a top priority. All of our Homestay Families are carefully selected by our International Homestay Coordinator. We visit the houses and complete a police and criminal history check to ensure all families are a suitable host family for our program.

Things to consider in a Homestay:

  • Speak English when at home
  • Try new things and be open to new experiences
  • Share information about your culture, family and background
  • Don't be lured into being with other ISP students who speak your language all the time, make Australian friends and speak English always
  • Offer to help your homestay family with chores
  • Participate in activities with your host family
  • Share dinner with your host family and speak at the dinner table
  • See as much of the Sunshine Coast/Queensland as you can
  • Make the most of every opportunity
  • Take responsibility for your own belongings
  • Always be respectful
