Work experience – industry, defence forces, work education program, work readiness program
If you are 14 years old and enrolled at school, you are eligible to attend work experience. Students are allowed 30 days each school year to attend work experience.
Work experience is an opportunity to gain an insight into a particular industry or job. You can sample the tasks and duties involved, as well as have the opportunity to talk to people in that industry. The more you know and learn about a particular career will allow you to make an informed choice of the career pathway you would like to follow. You do not get paid. Work experience can lead to casual employment or a School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship.
Students can use their school holidays (or year 11 and 12 students can use their Wednesdays) to attend work experience. Year 10 students also attend compulsory work experience (5 days) as a part of the year 10 work education program.
