Welcome to the Caloundra State High School Volleyball Signature Program
Established in 1985, the Caloundra State High School Volleyball Signature Program has grown to encompass over 160 students from years 7 to 12. Our program is dedicated to nurturing the development and longevity of volleyball within our students. We believe in fostering the holistic growth of each individual, recognising the profound health benefits and social-emotional development that participation in sports offers. While not every student may pursue volleyball at an elite level, we aspire for all to experience personal growth and develop into great people.
In addition, our volleyball students have the opportunity to participate in our Signature Program classes, tailored exclusively for them. These classes serve as a dedicated space where students delve deeper into volleyball-specific curriculum, focusing on ACARA HPE theoretical components adapted for volleyball. Here, they not only refine their skills but also gain valuable knowledge in coaching, refereeing, and other aspects essential to their development as well-rounded volleyball athletes.
Entry Requirements
Students
interested in joining our program have the opportunity to trial during Year 6
Trials, held on the 27th of August.
These trials serve as an entry point for
aspiring volleyball athletes, allowing them to showcase their skills and
passion for the sport. Based on performance, effort, and behaviour grades,
select students may be offered entry into the signature program, even if they
reside outside the catchment area.
Additionally, trials are held early in the
2025 school year for students who missed the initial opportunity in Year 6.
On-Court Excellence
Our program places a strong emphasis on mastering essential volleyball skills, understanding rules, rotations, and fostering teamwork. In addition to on-court training, students are educated about various roles such as coaching, refereeing, and game analysis. Through coaching clinics, SpikeZone and mini volleyball tournaments held for local primary school students, our students actively engage with the community.
In collaboration with Volleyball Queensland, Caloundra State High School competes in State (QLD School's Volleyball Cup) and National level (Australian Schools' Volleyball Cup) events, providing students with opportunities to excel and grow on the volleyball court. In the previous year, our program achieved remarkable success, securing 3rd place in Queensland and an impressive 5th place in Australia.
Beach Schools Cup Involvement
Our commitment to volleyball extends beyond traditional indoor competitions. Our students also participate in the QLD and AUS Beach Schools Cup, where they showcase their skills on the sand. This additional avenue allows our athletes to diversify their experience and further develop their game.
Senior Signature Program
The Senior Signature Program (Years 11 & 12), featuring the Period 0 initiative, provides tailored training sessions for our senior students, allowing them to hone their skills and elevate their performance levels. By integrating specialized sessions into their schedules, we aim to minimize the impact on senior study commitments while maintaining our program's high standards for success at an older level. Furthermore, we are exploring post-schooling pathways for potential Australian representation and opportunities for college/club volleyball overseas, offering our senior athletes avenues to pursue their volleyball aspirations beyond high school.
Coach Development
At Caloundra State High School, we prioritise the ongoing growth of both players and coaches. Our program provides valuable opportunities for former students to return as coaches, contributing their firsthand knowledge and experience. Additionally, experienced coaches from the Sunshine Coast generously offer their expertise to our athletes, enriching our coaching staff and enhancing player development. Through these collaborative efforts, we ensure top-tier instruction and mentorship for our volleyball community.
Scholarship Opportunities
High-performing students who excel at the representative level may be eligible for scholarships, providing financial support to pursue their athletic aspirations while continuing their academic studies.
