Overview
The Horizon Program is for students in Years 7 and 8. The program nurtures and develops academically-talented students to extend and maximise their potential. Students work within the Australian Curriculum, with a focus on 21st Century skills such as complex thinking, digital literacy, innovation and teamwork. Students are also involved in extracurricular activities within the local community to help nurture their passion for learning, allowing like-minded students to work together and be constantly challenged.
Program Features
- A strong emphasis on attaining the highest academic results;
- Engagement with similar minded and driven students with a strong focus on higher order thinking skills,
self-regulation and developing strong study skills towards senior academic pathways;
- Emphasis on developing resilience, initiative, innovation, teamwork and communication skills through
engagement in a tailored curriculum;
- Targeted skills development in the use of digital technology using the student’s BYO device;
o An expectation to participate in school life and represent the school within the community, through
involvement in one or more of the following areas: The Arts, Sport, Leadership, School Service, Inter
school Competitions;
- Requirement for students to maintain their high academic standard in order to remain in the Horizons
Class. Academic results will be reviewed every semester and class compositions adjusted accordingly.
Selection Criteria
- Evidence of consistently high levels of academic achievement in Maths, English, Science and
Humanities;
- Evidence of consistently high standards of behaviour and effort in all subjects;
- High performance in NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy testing (in the upper two bands).

Successful applicants will be notified by Thursday 28 March 2024
Round 2* (Horizons only) closes 3.00pm Friday 23 August 2024

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 13 September 2024
NOTE: if not "at level" in Academic Achievement currently, students may re-apply in Round 2 if their results improve.
