Caloundra State High School offers a STEM Academic Signature Program for students in Year 7. The STEM classes are designed to challenge, nurture and develop students with outstanding Math and Science ability.
Entry to this program is by application only.



Students will be required to discover our built and digital environment to design innovative solutions to a range of problems. The course combines all the technologies – Design and Digital – to problem solve independently and in groups using electronics and digital components creating prototypes of their design solutions. Students will be expected to use their higher level problem solving skills to design their solution to the set problem.
This course involves/uses, but is not limited to:
• Micro:Bit – Beat box and light show
• Sustainable practices epackaging
• There's an App for that!
• Smart foods and production techniques
• eSports – Minecraft Education
• Negotiated learning based on student interest
• Construction using a range of mediums from lego to laser cutters
• Connect with Industry eg: CyberSecurity, CSIRO, Coding competitions, etc
Selection to participate in this prestigious program will be based on:
- Students are to be achieving a B or higher in both Maths and Science
- Evidence of consistently high standards of behaviour and effort in all subjects;
- High performance in NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy testing (in the upper two bands).
The closing date for applications is 3.00pm Friday 22 August 2025. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 19 September 2025.
