The Humanities Faculty provides students with a range of engaging real-world learning experiences that help them understand people, places, societies and economies, both past and present. In Junior Secondary, students explore ancient civilisations, the development of Australia as a nation, the importance of water as a resource, and the diverse environments that shape our world. They also explore the rights and responsibilities citizens have in our democracy, and the roles they play in positively influencing their community. Through the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum, students develop critical thinking, research and inquiry skills while investigating History, Geography, Economics and Business, and Civics and Citizenship.
In the Middle School, students study Australian History, from first contact to ANZAC experiences of World War One, and how those events have contributed to the shaping of our nation and national identities. Students also have the freedom to choose the electives that inspire them, giving them a taste of what's possible in their senior phase of learning.
In Senior Secondary, students can choose from a range of subjects including Ancient History, Modern History, Geography, Legal Studies, Business, Certificate III in Business and Certificate IV in Justice Studies. These courses encourage students to think critically, communicate effectively and engage with the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly complex world.
Across the faculty, students have opportunities to participate in excursions, guest speaker presentations, court visits, business case studies and community partnerships that bring classroom learning to life.
The Humanities Department offers opportunities for all students!
